With this project, AAAA and Age-Friendly Minnesota joined forces to create a statewide initiative aimed at promoting healthy aging. This program prioritizes the engagement of older adults as valuable contributors to society and aims to enhance their physical and mental well-being. By fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, this partnership is helping to build stronger, age-friendly communities across Minnesota.

Requirements

The project produced a short video of five minutes or less that discussed the positive side of aging in Minnesota and in the Arrowhead region. By dispelling common misconceptions held about aging, social isolation, and older adults, the video helped prepare Minnesotans for the current shift toward an older population that Minnesota is currently experiencing. The video invited viewers to positively change the way we view and treat older Minnesotans, and highlighted the diversity of Minnesota’s aging population by representing people with disabilities, people of broad economic backgrounds, people of many races and ethnicities, and people from every part of Minnesota. The video included illustrations and adhered to Minnesota’s accessibility requirements.

Solution

Old Saw Media was tasked with producing a video that showcased the ways in which older Minnesotans contribute to the state's wonderful character. To achieve this goal, the video was designed to dispel common myths about aging and highlight the needs and challenges faced by older generations, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The viewpoints of Minnesotans from diverse backgrounds, including various ages, ethnicities, and economic classes, were included to ensure a comprehensive representation. The video showcased the perspectives of those living in urban and rural areas, as well as people with various disabilities. To inspire and motivate viewers to change their perspectives on aging in Minnesota, a positive and uplifting tone was employed. Furthermore, the video provided potential solutions to address social isolation experienced by many aging Minnesotans by raising awareness of the issue and addressing common stereotypes. All visual content met Minnesota's accessibility requirements.
